Health Insurance

Health insurance is a type of insurance that pays for medical expenses incurred as a result of an illness. A health insurance policy is a legal agreement between an insurer and the policyholder. The policyholder pays a premium to the insurance company, and the insurer pays for the insured’s medical expenses, such as hospitalisation, day care, posthospitalization, and prehospitalization, among other things.

  • Individual Health Insurance: It offers health coverage to a single person only
  • Family Health Insurance: It offers health coverage to the entire family (self, spouse, dependent children, and parents) in a single health insurance plan
  • Top Up Health Insurance: It’s an additional coverage offered by health insurance companies to aid the policyholders when they exceed the maximum limit of their health insurance plans.
  • Critical Illness Health Insurance: It offers health coverage to the insured against critical illness
  • Hospital Daily Cash Health Insurance: It provides some cash expenses to the policyholder at the time of hospitalization

Individual Health Insurance

An individual health insurance plan is intended to provide health insurance coverage to a single person. Plans for individual health insurance offer complete protection in the event of a medical emergency. There is just one buyer. This type of health insurance covers the cost for any major or minor surgeries that are necessary in relation to any diseases that have developed during the policy period as well as the costs of hospitalization, room rent, daycare procedures, OPD charges, and other expenses that result from an accident, sudden illness, or other unforeseen event. Additionally, by paying a small additional premium, an insured person can also cover their spouse, parents, and children. Age and medical history of the insured are taken into account when calculating the premium for an individual health plan.

Family Floater Health Insurance

A family  floater health insurance plan is a special kind of health insurance that covers the complete family under a single health insurance policy. Up to six family members may be covered (spouse, children, parents, self). Only one family member needs to pay the premium in order for the entire family to be covered, and the total cost is split evenly among everyone in the family.

What is the Difference Between Family Floater and Individual Health Insurance?

The primary difference between a family floater health insurance plan and an individual health policy is that a family floater health insurance protects every member of the family under a single plan, sharing the cost of the premium and the total amount insured. In contrast, an individual health insurance plan is only intended for one person, with a separate health insurance premium and total amount insured.

Top Up Health Insurance

Your needs are met by a health insurance plan in the event of a medical emergency. The hospital bills might occasionally cost more than your health insurance would cover, requiring you to pay the difference out of pocket. However, a top-up health insurance plan offers a way to prevent such situations.

If the policyholder’s medical emergency claims are more than the health insurance policy plan covered, then the policyholder can claim the extra amount from the top-up plan.

There are two types of plans: top-up and super top-up.

Top-up plan: Useful when the claim amount exceeds the current health insurance policy’s coverage amount and is applicable annually per claim.

Super top-up plan: Applicable when the policyholder exhausts the coverage of the health insurance policies owing to repeated claims in a year.

Critical Illness Health Insurance

Plans for critical illness health insurance are intended to treat specific critical illnesses. Critical illness costs a lot of money. As a result, in an emergency, this type of health plan can come in handy. If a policyholder is diagnosed with a critical illness, the policyholder will receive a lump sum payment. The following are some of the major critical illnesses covered by this health insurance:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Transplantation of a major organ
  • Kidney failures
  • Paralysis
  • Bypass surgery

Hospital Daily Cash Health Insurance

Even if you have a standard Mediclaim policy, you may have to make some “out of pocket” expenses such as food and transportation in the event of hospitalization. Hospital daily cash health insurance is a type of health plan that provides the policyholder with a daily cash allowance up to a certain limit for their day-to-day expenses during hospitalisation to cover incidental expenses and thus reduce out-of-pocket expenditure.
