6 Things To Do When You’re Sweating Too Much

One of the most common and yet, the most embarrassing things that can happen to a person is excessive sweating. Whether it’s a sweaty palm that immediately makes the other person wipe their hand after a handshake or huge sweat circles that ruin your most stylish suit in an important meeting – excessive sweating can leave you red faced.

If you’ve caught yourself sniffing yourself and wondering – “Is that me?” then you probably understand what we’re talking about. However, we have a whole set of solutions for you, so don’t sweat it! Here’s everything you need to know to counter excessive sweating from dripping your life away:

  • Embrace A Strong Anti-Perspirant

Swap out your current talcum powder for a strong anti-perspirant or purchase an anti-perspirant perfume. Most importantly, apply it right.

For best results, apply it at night, when your sweat levels are at their lowest, not to mention that doing this reduces the chance of skin irritations. Applying it in the morning (when sweat levels are at their highest) means that it will only wash off with the sweat. Make sure your underarms are completely dry and clean before applying for the same reasons.

  • Lose The Anxiety

Your body talks to you the only way it knows how – through signals that you will notice such as sweat. Excessive sweating can be a result of your being stressed out.

Devote some time to yourself and spend some additional time on your favourite hobby, or meditate regularly and you’ll find the sweat and the stress reduced considerably. And that’s just the start. Figure out the reason for your anxiety/stress, try to work on a solution, lose the stress and don’t sweat it.

  • Watch Your Diet

You are what you eat and if stale junk food is a major chunk of your diet, well, no wonder you have a slight sweat problem. Junk food, carbonated drinks, spicy food and dishes with lots of onion and garlic can be hell on your body and natural sweat triggers.

This is especially true for spicy food as your body treats it as it would treat an extremely hot climate – by trying to cool itself down resulting in lots of stinky, dripping sweat. Some foods such as caffeinated drinks can actually exacerbate sweating. While it’s not guaranteed to reduce your sweating massively, a change of diet can’t hurt. Include lots of fresh fruits, legumes and green leafy veggies in your diet instead.

  • Change The Way You Dress

Opt for lighter fabrics that offer more breathing space for your skin. This is especially important when you exercise as your body heats up during strenuous exercise and lighter/looser clothing can help your body cool down easier. Also, wearing an undershirt can help hide sweat stains from your outer clothing.

  • Promote Normal Sweat

Exercise regularly to trigger the release of endorphins that promote a sense of satisfaction and relaxation.

By lowering stress hormone levels through aerobic exercise, combined with the release of endorphins, puts your body at ease and lessens the chance of triggering an adrenal response to stressors (sweating is a result of an adrenal response). For this to happen, you need to practice aerobic exercise (cardio) at least 5 days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes.

  • Downsize Your Vices

Lifestyle vices like obesity, drinking and smoking all adversely impact your body in a multitude of ways and can increase your sweat output overtime.

  • Consult A Doctor

As we mentioned before, it is important that you listen to your body. When something goes wrong, your body tries its best to ask for help and excessive sweating may just be a call for help!

Anything from hormonal changes, thyroid problems, approaching menopause, to certain medications and hyperhidrosis can cause excessive sweating. So, don’t hesitate to pay your doctor a visit and don’t skip a full body exam.
