The biggest wedding of the year (and probably, decade!) just took place yesterday – Anushka Sharma & Virat Kohli tied the knot!
While we’ve already shown you every single photo and video from the destination wedding, most of us won’t be getting married in an exclusive Italian villa wearing custom-made Sabyasachi lehengas and real jadau jewellery! But that doesn’t mean there weren’t plenty of #IdeasYouCanUse from this big celebrity wedding.
For brides, as well as grooms, there were plenty of great ideas to pick from – the unique decor, how they coordinated their outfits, the wedding music and thank you notes! We’ve put all of it together for you to select ideas for your own 2018 wedding!
The Sabyasachi wedding lehenga was, of course, gorgeous.
But what we loved, even more, was the natural makeup Anushka opted for.

She didn’t use fake eyelashes (so refreshing on a celebrity bride!) and used a nude lipstick, letting her natural glow and beauty take centre stage. With all that jewellery & heavily embroidered Sabyasachi lehenga, this bridal makeup look for a day wedding was PERFECT.
She layered 2 gorgeous necklaces and picked up the pinks from her outfit into her jewellery with pale pink spinels and red rubies. Her earrings were equally gorgeous, and her gold & polki bangles with golden kaleerey looked stunning on her hands! The simple nath completed the traditional Sabyasachi bride look.

Sabyasachi mentioned how her lehenga had to fit in, instead of standing out, so they chose a colour that would blend in with the whimsical Tuscan surrounding.
Psst…it took 32 days and a crew of 67 karigars to make her lehenga!
The mandap, the lanterns, the light bulbs strung across the open venue, the flowers!

The wedding decorator, Devika Narain, said that “Anushka wanted a wedding that symbolised prosperity and growth. This beautiful overgrown garden of love was created especially for the couple in ash rose and lavender.” The colours were beyond beautiful!!!
Yes, she walked towards her groom while the popular “Din Shagna Da” played in the backdrop, and…it was our favourite version of the song (the one by Jasleen Royal)!
Here’s the song for you to play for your bridal entry:
Most people don’t think about what song will play while they exchange rings at their Engagement, but Virushka taught us that having Thinking Out Loud on in the background provides just the right amount of romance to the air! 🙂
Brides, we definitely recommend channelling your inner supermodel & try getting a smouldering HOT wedding photo like this with bae!

Fun Fact: The photographer, Joseph Radhik, had this to say about this royal portrait that he shot in a narrow hallway “It’s so strange to make a portrait of someone who’s been photographed so many times! When I first met these two, Anushka said: All I want is my wedding moments to be captured and I don’t want anything filmy! This was music to my ears but I also really wanted to make a couple of timeless posed portraits and we negotiated a window of 3-5mins per event to make a portrait. This was one of them!”
The burgundy velvet Sabya sari, the uncut diamond and pearl choker with matching studs, the kohl-rimmed eyes with nude makeup and the low bun hairstyle with 3 red roses for the perfect finishing touch <3

Brides, step away from those lehengas. Saris are back, and how!
Classic blue suit & crisp white shirt, a black waistcoat with a white floral pin and a textured tie. Boys, hope you’re taking notes on groom fashion from the stylish cricketer!
Please note the stage decor (wreaths and statement green sofa for the couple) and the beautiful table set up for dinner (flowers & candelabras & chandeliers)!
This is an adorable way to thank your wedding guests. You can easily do this in a smaller function (your Mehendi or Roka) in case your actual wedding ceremony is a large affair.
“We would like to express our many thanks for sharing our wedding day with us. Thank you for celebrating in our joy, love & happiness. You have helped to make us who we are today, and for that we are forever grateful. So please enjoy tonight, you are our favourite people in the world and we love you.”
This is something The Wedding Filmer, the wedding videography team, does on a regular basis. They create music specifically for the wedding video they are making. For Virushka’s wedding video, they got Virat to sing and recorded it. This was now likely play in the background during their actual wedding film! A great way for couples to add a romantic, personalised touch to their wedding video – it’s so easy to do!
For her mehendi, Anushka wanted a boho look full of bright colours. Hot pink was her favourite. The Sabya team created a graphic lehenga in fuchsia pink and Indian orange. It was hand-printed by the famed Calcutta block printers and hand-embroidered with gota and marori. Artists from The Sabyasachi Art Foundation rendered a beautiful sixties pop print and it was silk screen printed, hand woven Indian silk. Anushka accessorised herself with earrings from the Sabyasachi Heritage Jewelry collection, a stunning pair of jhumkas crafted in 22k gold with Iranian turquoise, tourmalines, uncut diamonds and Japanese cultured pearls. Custom juttis in hand woven brocade and zardosi completed the look.

He was also in a Sabya ensemble – a khadi kurta churidaar with a fuchsia pink textured silk Nehru jacket detailed with the Sabyasachi House blazer buttons. His juttis were custom tan leather with a zardosi crest (not visible here).
Considering this was a celebrity wedding, they could’ve easily had a big fat Indian wedding with a thousand guests and what not. Instead, they chose to spend their huge wedding budget on an exotic location in Italy (it’s one of the most expensive villa stays in the world!) to share their special day with only the closest family & friends. Was it a good idea? You can see it on their faces! Both Virat & Anushka seem to have genuinely had a ton of fun, and seem so relaxed and carefree. We doubt this would’ve been possible with a larger guest list.

Of course, one still has to celebrate with the bigger circle of friends & family, but like Virushka, it’s a good idea to keep the wedding ceremony intimate and throw a big reception party later on. Try it out!
