Interior designers Pooja Mehra and Shweta Sharma kept classic elegance in focus while designing this raw New Delhi apartment. It was planned keeping in mind the demographics of the owners, who are young working professionals.<\/p>\n

What we loved were the tips we picked up on creating a transitional style<\/strong> for our own homes!<\/em><\/p>\n

Transitional is a home decor style that combines traditional with contemporary, ensuring a decor look with a timeless appeal. It’s a style that’s gained popularity amongst millennials, which is why we took plenty of notes on how to achieve the perfect balance when it comes to decorating a transitional home.<\/p>\n

Size:<\/strong> 3800 sq ft<\/p>\n

Rooms:<\/strong> Four bedroom apartment (with one converted into a study) plus a living-cum-dining and a family room<\/p>\n

The Requirement:<\/strong> The couple gave the designers a free-reign on the house, only stating that they wanted it to have a cosy-home feel, while still keeping the spacious look.<\/p>\n

The designer duo successfully created a blend of traditional design with subtle modernity.<\/p>\n

This house is basically a lesson in achieving the perfect transitional home style!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Dining Room<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The blue dining chairs add a cool vibe to the dining-cum-living room. \u201cWe opted for a marble top dining table, keeping in mind the ease and practicality of the working owners. We have added fully upholstered and tufted chairs to add some character and dimension to the space. The combination of styles in terms of furniture has given an eclectic homely feel,\u201d shares Shweta. The sleek wooden crockery cabinet with crackled mirror facade addresses the storage needs.<\/p>\n

Keeping in mind the hectic schedule of the residents, the designers opted for marble top dining table.<\/p><\/div>\n

  1. The neutral palette, a key characteristic of the transitional style, was used across the room.<\/li>\n
  2. The chandeliers & tufted chairs added a traditional element, while the beige curtains’ geometric pattern and chairs’ choice of blue colour gave the space a contemporary touch.<\/li>\n
  3. Mirrors on the cabinet added another yet layer of the transitional style!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The Living Room<\/strong><\/h1>\n

    \u201cWe knew the space is mainly used to entertain guests. So it was perfect to keep the design traditional yet transitional, maintaining a formal look. To add oomph, we incorporated exquisite accessories in different tones,\u201d shares Pooja.<\/p>\n

    The neutral palette was accented with floral and geometrical patterns and shades such as gold, teal and deep red.<\/p>\n

    Living cum dining room<\/p><\/div>\n

    Coloured furnishings were added to uplift the neutral palette of the room.<\/p>\n

    1. A focus wall and limited accessories are characteristics of the transitional style. In the living room, the focus of the wall is a single reproduced work of art in the exact same colour palette of the room – red, gold and teal!<\/li>\n
    2. The furniture (coffee table, side tables, sofas) was custom-made by the interior design team in traditional styles while a metallic side table and textured colourful cushions added a touch of contemporary.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The Master Bedroom<\/strong><\/h1>\n

      \u201cWe wanted a sense of calmness in the overall d\u00e9cor of the bedroom. The soft and the airy look of this area is achieved through the powder blue colour scheme and a hint of silver and grey,\u201d shares Shweta.<\/p>\n

      The designer opted for a chaise instead of chairs to have a relaxing place to read and a perfect place to unwind before bed<\/p><\/div>\n

      How they mixed elements to achieve a transitional decor look:<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n

      1. Straight lines with soft curves are a key part of transitional decor.<\/li>\n
      2. Once again, a neutral colour palette was used.<\/li>\n
      3. As was the traditional tufting technique (this time giving us a favourite tufted headboard!)\u00a0but a more trendy pale blue colour was used for the fabric.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        The Study<\/strong><\/h1>\n

        The designers converted one of the bedrooms into a study knowing that the owners needed a space to work from home. \u201cThe use of antique gold, mustard, and dark wood add to the richness of the room,\u201d says Pooja.<\/p>\n

        Utilising every corner, the designers opted for multi-functional pieces like nesting table and an ottoman-cum-table.<\/p><\/div>\n

        1. Classic pieces of furniture were created by the designers in straight lines!<\/li>\n
        2. Imperial maps (framed as artwork on the walls) added a touch of tradition<\/li>\n
        3. The uniquely-shaped nesting tables and metallic lamp added modernity.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          The Guest Bedroom<\/strong><\/h1>\n

          The guest bedroom showcases a neutral colour palette with a dash of red through furnishings and fresh flowers. Talking about the brief, the designers share,”The owners wanted a minimal yet fresh look. We decided to stick with furniture that’s proportional to the room so the space doesn’t look crowded,” shares Pooja. The bed is structured and has tall posts on either side. The design stretches to the side tables as well.<\/p>\n

          The vanity is made to look feminine, with added frills on the vanity stool and hardware on the vanity to resemble antique jewellery.<\/p><\/div>\n
