This World Dance Day, we spent some time with some of the best dance instructors on UrbanClap, who have mastered dance forms ranging from Hip Hop to Ballet, and Kathak to Jazz. Here are 6 dance forms that will make you want to explore the dancer in you.<\/p>\n

Beat-boxing, B-boying, Grafitti, and Rapping – welcome to the cool grounds of Hip Hop. Aakanksha started practising this African-American dance form in front of the TV, just like all of us. However, her determination to pursue it placed her among the 15 girls selected by Ryan Martyr from all over India, to form an all-girls Hip-Hop troupe. She feels Hip-Hop is the dance form that best reflects her dynamic personality, but that’s not the only dance form she practises…<\/p>\n

“As much as I love Hip Hop, Kathak is my way of connecting with the audience through storytelling.”-Aakanksha Sehrawat<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the eight forms of Indian classical dancing, Kathak originates from the nomadic poets of ancient Northern India known as Kathakars (storytellers). After starting to learn the art in the 11th standard, Aakanksha realised that Kathak is her way of communicating with people, and she still continues to explore the religious and entertaining ways of storytelling in Kathak.<\/p>\n

“When I dance, I don’t think about anything else. The only thing that matters then\u00a0is dancing.”-Suraj Verma<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

SALSA! the dance or the sauce? Some people believe the dance took its name from the salsa sauce, the similarity being, the former – a mix of dance styles and the latter – a mix of ingredients.<\/p>\n

Choose what you may, Suraj chose to be an undeterred lover of both! Also specializing in Hip Hop dancing, he is now preparing for the World Championship after having won the Asia Dance Championship in Bangalore.<\/p>\n

His partner, Takam says that she has fallen more in love with the art form and owes it to him as a mentor. “He encourages, and sometimes scolds! But what makes him a great teacher is his support and enthusiasm.”<\/p>\n

“One word that comes to my mind when I think about Jazz is\u00a0Liberation. We all need a channel to direct our energies, our restlessness. Mine is dancing.”- Sanchi Budhiraja<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This African-American dance form is all about the expression of freedom and the feeling of letting go. And that’s what makes Sanchi feel at home. Remembering the time when she had to contemplate between Disney hour and dance classes, she thanks her little self for having chosen dance. “The days I don’t dance, I don’t feel good. I keep questioning what I’m supposed to do and what makes me happy. And the days that I do, I am.. Happy.”<\/p>\n

“Zumba is the most liberal form of workout because it sets your soul free. It’s not only about health but about fun, a LOT of fun.”-Monsoon Beri<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

As quirky as the word itself, Zumba is a complete workout that mixes dance and aerobic movements and is performed to the beat of energetic music. Sing along and let go because it is suitable for all ages, no exceptions. And that’s exactly what Monsoon did!<\/p>\n

After working in an Event company for 4 years, with a hectic schedule and a lot of running around, she started to lose weight and developed PCOD. After a doctor’s recommendation, she joined a fitness center and fell in love with the dance form. She’s been on a mission of changing lives with Zumba ever since.<\/p>\n

“Every day is an internal journey with Ballet as a dance form. It changes you, gives you balance, physical and mental both and the chance to connect with yourself, on a greater, deeper level.”-Sanjay Khatri<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

‘Give me some of that art’, Ballet said to the Renaissance! With its roots in the Italian courts of the Renaissance, this art form requires some serious passion and training.<\/p>\n

For Sanjay, Ballet was pure destiny. He didn’t choose it. It chose him.<\/p>\n

He was trying to make it big as a model when he happened to be chosen for an ad shoot promoting dance. The company acting as his patron\u00a0told him to learn the art form professionally. And he hasn’t stopped dancing since then.<\/p>\n

His wish to help Indian children discover Ballet as a dance form led him to successfully send one of his students to Washington’s Koriv Ballet Academy on a 100% scholarship. Currently juggling classes in his studio in Gurgaon and frequent shows in Washington, Korea, and Russia, he has become the face of Ballet dancing in India.<\/p>\n

These dancers are doing what they love, and absolutely loving what they do! From waking up early to train, to practicing their routines till they perfect them, their passion inspires us to settle for nothing less.<\/p>\n
