The cold, dry weather robs moisture from your little one\u2019s body which is why it is essential to protect against it, keeping these tips in mind:<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Protect against the elements<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dress baby in warm layers and ensure feet, hands and head are well covered. If heading out with baby in the pram, keep the covers up to protect against the cold wind. Do keep in mind that while it\u2019s essential to layer up, don\u2019t go overboard! Babies can also get too hot leading to a nasty outbreak of rash from overheating. If you\u2019re in doubt, stick your hand underneath all the layers and feel baby\u2019s skin &#8211; if it feels too hot or sweaty, reduce some of those layers.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Skip hot, stay warm<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4757\" src=\"https:\/\/de927adv5b23k.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/shutterstock_545039047-1.jpg\" alt=\"shutterstock_545039047-1\" width=\"720\" height=\"377\" srcset=\"https:\/\/de927adv5b23k.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/03200150\/shutterstock_545039047-1.jpg 720w, https:\/\/de927adv5b23k.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/03200150\/shutterstock_545039047-1-150x79.jpg 150w, https:\/\/de927adv5b23k.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/03200150\/shutterstock_545039047-1-512x268.jpg 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A nice massage and bath time routine is the perfect way to get your infant to relax and unwind. Do keep in mind though that the bath water isn\u2019t too hot, as hot water tends to dry out the skin even more. Stick to lukewarm water and give baby a quick bath &#8211; too much time in the bath water can dry out the skin further.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Lock in moisture<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After bathing, don\u2019t be in a hurry to towel off all the water from baby\u2019s skin. Infact, it\u2019s much better to pat the body dry leaving a little moisture on the skin surface. That way when you apply lotion or cream it absorbs into the skin faster and helps lock in moisture.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Watch out for eczema<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This itchy, flaky dry skin condition is common in babies and often appears as little bumps or rashes on the body. Stick to a deep moisturising cream or ointment to attack eczema head on before it spreads and gets too uncomfortable for your little one.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Natural is best<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4758\" src=\"https:\/\/de927adv5b23k.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/shutterstock_274207601-1.jpg\" alt=\"shutterstock_274207601-1\" width=\"720\" height=\"377\" srcset=\"https:\/\/de927adv5b23k.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/03200149\/shutterstock_274207601-1.jpg 720w, https:\/\/de927adv5b23k.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/03200149\/shutterstock_274207601-1-150x79.jpg 150w, https:\/\/de927adv5b23k.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/03200149\/shutterstock_274207601-1-512x268.jpg 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Baby\u2019s skin is delicate which is why it\u2019s not a good idea to use the same creams or lotions that adults use on their body. Find natural alternatives like olive oil or coconut oil or mild baby-safe lotions and creams that will not have any adverse reactions. It\u2019s always a good idea to seek medical help if you\u2019re in doubt about what ointments or creams are safe for use on baby\u2019s skin<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Use a humidifier<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If your house has central heating, it\u2019s a good idea to install a humidifier. The warm, dry air sucks out moisture leaving skin dry and chapped. Using a humidifier will help restore some of that moisture back inside the home.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Stay hydrated<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The chilly air may not really make you thirsty but it is important to drink plenty of liquids to prevent dehydration. If you\u2019re still nursing, ensure baby is feeding well &#8211; the bonus of breastfeeding means plenty of snuggly, cuddly time with your bundle of joy!
